Results of the By-Election for the Syndicate of Doctors in the North and Beirut

The process of electing four new members to the Council of the Syndicate of Doctors in Lebanon, Beirut concluded with 15 candidates vying for positions at the House of Doctors. The election was supervised by the Head of the Syndicate of Doctors in Beirut, Youssef Bakhash, and the representative of the Ministry of Public Health, General Director of Medical Care, Joseph Hala.

As a result of the vote counting, the following doctors won: Dr. Jaafar Fadl Abbas, Ali Moussa Houmani, Waleem Nabi Maouad, and Raef Khalil Rida. The General Assembly also approved the financial statements and resolutions of the General Assembly. Polling stations in the Beirut Doctors' Syndicate in Furn El Chebbak closed at 2 PM today for the selection of four council members from 18 doctors who ran, following the launch of the electoral process by Bakhash earlier this Sunday.

In the North, the Head of the Doctors' Syndicate, Muhammad Nadeem Safi, announced the results of the by-election organized today at the Rashid Karami International Exhibition Center, where 499 doctors out of 1,248 eligible to vote cast their ballots. The Minister of Public Health was represented by the Head of Health in the North, Dr. Saadallah Sabouna.

After the electronic counting, Safi announced the following physicians as winners: Yahya Saleh with 354 votes, Hala Abdullah with 350 votes, and Ibrahim Al-Maqdisi with 279 votes. The following candidates were elected unopposed: former head Selim Abi Saleh as a monitor for the solidarity fund, Rashad Al-Aalam as an assistant, and Faisal Taraa as another assistant.

Safi noted “the positive spirit and noble competition that brought comfort and reassurance to participating doctors,” congratulating the winners and urging the Syndicate's board and the medical community to “continue the Syndicate’s mission and work towards achieving its legitimate goals for the benefit of the country, citizens, and the medical community.”

In a statement, the "Future Movement" announced that its supported list won all member positions in the elections for the North's Doctors' Syndicate, held today, with the Movement's candidate, Dr. Hala Abdullah, securing second place with 350 votes.

Commenting on the elections for the Doctors' Syndicate in Beirut, the Syndicates and Liberal Professions Office of the Amal Movement issued a statement congratulating the medical community for fulfilling their electoral duty with dignity and responsibility, and for helping make this annual process a success, especially the male and female colleagues who expressed their trust in the trade union solidarity list supported by the Amal Movement and its allies, which won all positions. They thanked the valuable trust given to the movement's representative, Dr. Jaafar Abbas, pledging to place all movement resources at the service of the Syndicate, the profession, and the medical community to achieve goals and secure rights.
