Priorities of Manchester United in the Summer Transfer Market

Manchester United is experiencing critical days as it plans for the upcoming summer transfer window, determining the necessary signings for the new season and the list of departing players, as well as finalizing the fate of Dutch coach Erik ten Hag.

According to global network "Sky Sports," Manchester United has prioritized signing a new center back in the summer transfer market to replace French defender Raphael Varane, who announced his departure following the expiration of his contract in June after three seasons at Old Trafford. The "Red Devils" are targeting a new defender after the 31-year-old player struggled significantly to regain his fitness last season, making only 22 appearances in the Premier League.

Manchester United is now seeking a long-term replacement for the French player following a season filled with injuries, as Varane's absence impacted the defensive trio of Lisandro Martinez, Luke Shaw, and Tyrell Malacia for most of the season, putting ten Hag in a difficult position.

The Dutch coach described the injury issues faced by the English club in the last season as a "nightmare," as he was sometimes forced to rely on midfield duo Casemiro and Sofyan Amrabat in defense.

The network noted that Manchester United officials are continuing negotiations with Jonny Evans regarding the extension of his contract, which expires on June 30, but he is not considered a long-term solution, especially at the age of 36.

In addition to the "Red Devils" desire to acquire a defender who can lead the team for the next four or five years, the English club is also looking to sign a striker to bolster its squad in preparation for the new season.

Manchester United is expected to make a decisive decision regarding Erik ten Hag’s future sooner rather than later, as the club officials, who finished the season in eighth place in the English league, are finalizing the comprehensive assessment of the Dutch coach.
