The Association of Banks has decided to close banks on September 19-21 in condemnation of what has occurred and in order to take necessary organizational measures. The board will reconvene at the beginning of next week to discuss the next steps, following "the repeated attacks on banks and the physical aggression faced by the sector, especially bank employees, which were precisely detailed in the statement by the Union of Bank Employees Syndicates in Lebanon yesterday. This decision also considers the risks faced by customers present inside branches that are subject to incursions."
The association also apologizes to all depositors for any inconvenience or delays that may result from this closure, as the safety of its employees and customers is a top priority for banks, along with securing the interests of depositors as much as possible in the current difficult circumstances facing the country.
On another note, the association emphasized "the rejection of violence in all its forms, as violence has not and will not be the solution. The solution lies in the enactment of laws capable of addressing the crisis as quickly as possible, because addressing a systemic failure like the one the country is experiencing can only be solved through comprehensive plans that take into account all underlying causes and address them integrally, as recently stated in many interventions by honorable members of parliament."
