# Who is Aharon Haliva?

"I did not carry out the mission, and I will carry this black day every day and night," with these words, Israeli Military Intelligence Chief Aharon Haliva announced his resignation after admitting his responsibility for the failures of the October 7 attack. Haliva is the first political and military figure to resign since the Hamas attack. According to military analysts, this resignation will open the door for other Israeli leaders to take responsibility for the significant strategic failures. Palestinian factions described Haliva's resignation as "the first falling domino in Israel," confirming that it is "a clear indication of the accumulated failure within Israel's military and security institutions."

Haliva was born in 1967 to parents of Moroccan descent. He joined the 202nd Paratroopers Battalion in the Israeli army in 1986, later becoming the commander of the support company in the same battalion. He was then promoted to commander of the Paratroopers training base and continued to rise through various positions and responsibilities, eventually becoming the head of operations and then the head of military intelligence.

Israeli sources indicated that Brigadier General Shlomo Bender, head of the operations division in the General Staff, is the candidate for the position of head of Military Intelligence "Amán" after Haliva's resignation. According to "I24," there are several reasons behind Haliva's resignation, which go beyond the failures of "October 7," including failures in several missions such as predictions and misestimations of enemy plans, as well as the lack of any Israeli objectives achieved in the Gaza Strip to date. However, it can be understood that the Israeli administration has suffered a painful blow, especially given that the resignation comes ahead of a planned attack on the city of Rafah.
