Israeli Army Decides to Discharge Soldiers and Withdraw 5 Combat Brigades from Gaza

Israeli army radio reported that "the army has decided to discharge 5 combat brigades from ground maneuvers in the Gaza Strip, including two reserve brigades (551 and 14), and three training brigades." The "Times of Israel" noted that "the brigades discharged from Gaza will return to assist in reviving the Israeli economy." The Israeli website Walla indicated that "according to developments in the fighting in Gaza, additional forces that were called up to fight Hamas are expected to be discharged, a step that will help the economy as the country prepares for a long-term war." Army spokesman Admiral Daniel Hagari stated, "Some reserve soldiers will return to their families and jobs this week." He added, "This will provide significant relief to the economy and allow them to gain strength for upcoming activities next year, and fighting will continue, and we will need them."
