Joke or Reality? Details of Casillas and Puyol's Tweet about Their Sexuality

The legendary Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas and former Barcelona defender Carlos Puyol caused a significant stir when Casillas tweeted that he is gay, and Puyol commented on it. Casillas's Twitter account posted a message saying, "I hope to be respected... I’m gay." Puyol responded to the tweet, saying, "It’s time to tell everyone our story, Iker."

Casillas's tweet and Puyol's comment sparked widespread speculation about their affiliation with the LGBTQ+ community. However, according to a report from the Spanish newspaper "AS," the tweet from the famous goalkeeper declaring himself gay was merely a joke, following recent headlines suggesting he may be in a romantic relationship with Spanish actress Alejandra Onieva.

Casillas's reaction came after he deleted the tweet about an hour later and posted another message to clarify the situation. He tweeted, "My account was hacked; luckily, everything is fine. I apologize to all my followers and, of course, more apologies to the LGBTQ+ community."

Both Casillas and Puyol are considered some of the most prominent and famous players in the history of Spanish football, with Casillas having a successful career filled with titles and achievements at Real Madrid, while Puyol was part of the golden era during which Barcelona dominated local and international competitions from 2008 to 2012. Casillas and Puyol also won the UEFA European Championship in 2008 and the FIFA World Cup in 2010 with the Spanish national team.
