Former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi surprised the Democratic Party today by stopping her full endorsement of Joe Biden's presidential campaign. Pelosi, a prominent member of the party of the 81-year-old president, stated that the decision is up to him and that "time is running out," adding, "I suggest that Biden reconsider his decision to stay in the presidential race."
She continued on the "Morning Joe" program, stating that "it is up to the president to decide if he will run... We all encourage him to make that decision... because time is running out... I want him to do what he decides... Whatever he decides, we will move forward with him."
Pelosi emphasized that discussions about Biden's political future should resume after the NATO summit. Biden hosted NATO member state leaders in Washington on Tuesday for an annual summit that offers the Democratic president an international platform to convince allies both domestically and abroad that he is still capable of leading.
Democratic lawmakers have confirmed that major donors have serious concerns about Biden's capabilities to hold the presidency. The White House is also dealing with the aftermath of Biden's poor performance in last month's presidential debate, raising further questions about his mental fitness and ability to win another term.
In contrast, Joe Biden stated that he is "completely ruling out" exiting the 2024 race, confirming in an interview with ABC News that he is capable of defeating former President Donald Trump in the upcoming U.S. elections set for November 5.
