Hamas Condemns the Burning of Departure Building at Rafah Crossing

The Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) described the Israeli army's act of burning the departure building at the Rafah border crossing as an "criminal act," stating that it disrupts the Palestinians' communication with the outside world. In a statement issued by the movement, it viewed the act of rendering the Rafah crossing inoperative after burning the departure hall as "a criminal act and barbaric behavior that is part of the ongoing genocide against our Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip."

Hamas held the Israeli army responsible for "the consequences of this crime, which cuts off the Palestinians' communication with the outside world and deprives thousands of patients and wounded individuals of traveling abroad for treatment." The movement called for widespread international condemnation of "this Nazi-like behavior, which constitutes a clear war crime."

It also urged for effective international action "to open the crossing, facilitate travel for our citizens, and allow the entry of emergency food and relief aid to the sector, which is subjected to a deliberate Zionist starvation war." Earlier today, Monday, the second day of Eid al-Adha, the Israeli army burned the departure hall and several facilities on the Palestinian side of the Rafah land crossing in southern Gaza, following its control of the area on May 7.
