After a 4.6 magnitude earthquake struck Adana province in southern Turkey on Wednesday, Dutch seismologist Frank Hoogerbeets has warned of a potential new earthquake, specifying a timeline as well.
He tweeted about the earthquake that affected central Turkey (Adana), adding, "A stronger tremor is possible in the short term." Responding to a follower's question about predicting the timing of an earthquake in the near future, Hoogerbeets said, "Yes. August is a critical month."
He continued in another post, stating, "We will witness critical geometric phenomena from August 7 to 8," adding, "There is a possibility of stronger tremors in the coming days."
This prediction came after a quake occurred at 05:32 local time in the Kozan area of Adana province, as reported by Turkey's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) on their website on Wednesday. It was noted that the epicenter was in the Kozan area and occurred at a depth of 7.6 km.
Additionally, Kozan district governor Bahattin Alpay said they had not received any negative reports following the earthquake, according to Anadolu Agency.
