In a recurring scene, rainwaters have flooded the roads of Lebanon, trapping citizens in their cars. Heavy rains poured down this afternoon, turning the streets into swamps as public roads were submerged with floods and rainfall, reflecting the negligence of the concerned authorities in performing their basic duties, including cleaning the drainage systems and maintaining infrastructure.
A video circulated on social media showing a shocking scene on the Kfar Habab - Ghzeer road as a result of heavy rain. The Jounieh highway also witnessed severe traffic congestion due to accumulated rainwater in both directions on the coastal road, according to the "Traffic Control Room."
Citizens stuck in their vehicles on the Kesrouan coastal highway have appealed to security forces for rescue. The National News Agency reported that the eastern lane of the highway in the town of Nahr Ibrahim is experiencing massive traffic jams due to heavy rainfall, with the town's neighborhoods being flooded.
Traffic on the coastal road from Nahr Ibrahim to the city of Jbeil is nearly halted, with people trapped in their cars calling for help from security forces and the Civil Defense. Additionally, rainwaters have inundated the Civil Defense center in Jounieh.
Meanwhile, the old market in Jbeil has been flooded, carrying dirt and waste with it. After the floods that submerged the roads in Kesrouan especially, some managed to rescue trapped citizens in their cars, as seen in the video below in Dhour Choueir, where they were transported by a truck.
Moreover, rainwaters have flooded most roads in the Chehbareh region, in addition to the coastal highway from Aley to Khaldeh. Lakes and swamps formed in the middle of the roads due to the heavy rainfall and the drainage channels' inability to absorb such vast amounts of water, hindering vehicle movement and causing extreme traffic jams along with the breakdown of many cars.
