"Pollution of the Seine River": Will the River Swimming Competition Be Canceled?

Organizers of the Paris 2024 Olympics have once again canceled the training session for the triathlon competition on the Seine River due to pollution levels, as announced on Monday. However, they expressed "confidence" in holding the events scheduled on the waterway that has been affected by rainfall on Friday and Saturday. In a joint statement, the organizers and the International Triathlon Union indicated that they decided to cancel the training session planned for Monday because "the water quality levels... do not provide sufficient guarantees" for its conduct. Based on tests conducted in mid-July, it was found that the Seine River is clean enough for swimming, but doubts remained about whether the water would be suitable for competition. On Monday, the organizers of Paris 2024 and the International Triathlon Union stated that they are "confident" that water quality will improve sufficiently before the competition starts on Tuesday, considering the weather forecasts for the next 48 hours.
