Arab officials revealed during a conversation with an Israeli channel the whereabouts of Hamas military wing leader Mohammed Deif following the recent assassination attempt in Khan Younis. The officials told "i24 News" channel that Deif was not found at Nasser Hospital, where the injured were taken after the Israeli strike targeting the Mawasi area in Khan Younis. They added that after the strike, which Israel stated targeted Mohammed Deif, he was transferred to an underground tunnel.
Born as Mohammed Al-Masri in 1965 in the Khan Younis refugee camp in the Gaza Strip, he later became known as Mohammed Deif after joining Hamas during the First Intifada in 1987. Only two years after joining Hamas, he was arrested and spent 16 months in Israeli prisons. Deif developed Hamas's tunnel network in the Gaza Strip and gained expertise in bomb-making.
Sources from Hamas indicated that he lost one of his eyes and sustained serious injuries to one of his legs in previous assassination attempts. Having survived multiple assassination attempts, his supporters in Gaza dubbed him "the man with nine lives." It is believed that Deif was the mastermind behind most of Hamas's attack on October 7.
