The caretaker Prime Minister, Najib Mikati, announced that the convening of the parliamentary office committee has been postponed for further discussion and to allow for the referral of some bills and proposals to parliamentary committees for study, aiming for the next parliamentary session to be "productive in terms of law approvals." After meeting with the Speaker of Parliament, Nabih Berri, at the second presidency in Ain al-Tineh today, Mikati stated that the situation requires a swift emergency process to rescue the country. He pointed out that the government cannot perform its role with a paralyzed parliament and the absence of a president, stressing that electing a president is necessary and is the solution, "and those who criticize what we are doing should go elect a president."
He added, "We have three options: either to agree with the International Monetary Fund, or to agree with each other, or not to agree at all; and that is what we are doing," questioning, "Who benefits if we do not agree? The people pay the price, and the political forces are responsible for that."
Mikati and Berri discussed general matters, especially topics related to the upcoming Cabinet session planned for the beginning of next week. Additionally, Mikati visited the Dar al-Fatwa to greet the Grand Mufti of the Lebanese Republic, Sheikh Abdul Latif Derian, on the occasion of Ramadan. After the meeting, Mikati announced that the government is fully performing its duties and has sent all bill proposals to the Parliament for approval, considering it a starting point for practical work and major reforms for the Lebanese state to restore active economic movement. Mikati revealed ideas for holding a meeting for the leaders of the Sunni community and the Shura Council.
