After two Israeli officials revealed that Hamas's demand for written commitments from the United States, Egypt, and Qatar is the only remaining obstacle before mediators can sit down and begin discussing the details of the agreement, new developments have emerged in the file. An amended proposal regarding the Hamas-Israel agreement has been revealed, which stipulates that discussions regarding the release of Israeli prisoners, including soldiers, will commence within 16 days following the first phase.
A senior Hamas source stated that the prisoner release agreement will be finalized before the end of the fifth week of the second phase. He confirmed that the amended agreement also includes a temporary ceasefire and the introduction of aid, with the mediators providing guarantees for this as long as the indirect talks continue to implement the second phase.
This comes after the White House announced that it, along with the CIA, is attempting to reach a compromise to bridge the gap between Israel and Hamas on this issue, according to a report from "Axios."
U.S. officials disclosed on Friday that an American team was in Doha on the same day to participate in the talks, amid optimism that the recent disagreement with Hamas leaders could lead to an agreement for the release of prisoners held in Gaza and establish a "sustainable calm" in the region.
In its latest response to the Israeli proposal regarding the prisoners and ceasefire, Hamas demanded that the United States, Egypt, and Qatar commit to continuing negotiations on the second phase of the deal without a time limit, while the first phase of the deal is underway. In contrast, senior Israeli officials stated that the remaining gap between the parties centers around Article 14 in the Israeli proposal.
