Russian

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced today, Friday, that Russian air surveillance detected aerial targets approaching the borders of the Russian Federation over the Black Sea, prompting a "Su-27" fighter jet to intercept them. The ministry stated: "In order to prevent a violation of the borders of the Russian Federation, a Su-27 fighter jet from the Russian air defense forces on duty flew into the area and identified a strategic reconnaissance aircraft of the type RC-135 and two Typhoon fighter jets from the Royal Air Force."

The ministry noted that "as the Russian fighter approached, the foreign military aircraft changed their course and moved away from the borders of the Russian Federation, and the fighter returned safely to its base after preventing a violation of state borders." It emphasized that "the flight of the Russian fighter was conducted in strict accordance with international rules for the use of airspace over neutral waters, without crossing air lines or approaching foreign aircraft in a dangerous manner."
