Algerian gymnast Kailia Nour has gifted her country and the Arab world their first gold medal at the 33rd Summer Olympic Games 2024, hosted by France until August 11. The Algerian gymnastics star expressed her immense happiness in winning the gold medal, stating that she dedicates this victory to the entire Algerian people.
Nour expressed her pride and honor at achieving this historic accomplishment by securing an Olympic gold medal for Algeria. Regarding the fierce competition from Chinese gymnast Kyan Kyu, she said, "The Chinese competitor put me under pressure and performed beautifully, but I maintained my focus and executed the necessary routines at the right moment."
Kailia Nour succeeded in winning first place in the finals of the uneven bars with a score of 15.700, just days after competing in the all-around final. The 17-year-old has etched her name in history as the first Arab and African to ascend the podium in gymnastics.
Nour's gold medal is the first for Algeria and the second at the Paris 2024 Olympics, following boxer Iman Khalef, who has secured at least a bronze in the under-66 kg category and is set to compete in the semifinals next Tuesday. This also marks the first Olympic gold for Algeria since athlete Taoufik Makhloufi in the 2012 London Olympics.
