Nottingham Forest, competing in the English Premier League, announced today that they have signed American goalkeeper Matt Turner from local rival Arsenal on a four-year contract. The clubs did not disclose the financial details of the deal, but British media reported that Forest will pay seven million pounds (8.92 million dollars) plus three million related to the goalkeeper’s appearances.
Turner stated in a statement, "When I learned there was interest in signing me, I felt it was the right move for my family. I spoke to my agent and felt it was the right step for me now." British media also noted that Arsenal is close to signing Brentford's David Raya.
Turner won the CONCACAF Gold Cup with the United States in 2021 and the CONCACAF Nations League title in 2023. He has become the third signing for Forest this summer after Ola Aina and Anthony Elanga. The 29-year-old goalkeeper has participated in 32 matches for the U.S. since his debut in February 2021. He may face his former team when Forest visits Arsenal in their first league match on Saturday.
