The Ministry of Health and Population in Egypt announced on Friday the success of the first "catheter ablation of the renal artery" procedure at the hospitals of the General Authority for Health Insurance, performed on a 64-year-old patient. The patient had suffered for years from chronic hypertension resistant to medication.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Health, Hossam Abdel Ghafoor, stated that "the mentioned procedure was carried out at Al-Muqattam Health Insurance Hospital, with the participation of a select group of doctors and professors of cardiology," noting that "the procedure was performed using the latest renal nerve ablation devices, in addition to advanced types of femoral catheters."
Meanwhile, the head of the General Authority for Health Insurance, Mohamed Dahy, pointed out that "the procedure achieved satisfactory results, as the patient's blood pressure levels decreased to normal levels that pose no risk to vital body organs, allowing the patient to be discharged from the hospital." Dahy confirmed that the authority "works according to integrated plans, focusing on improving services provided to citizens, alongside providing trained medical staff on the latest advancements in various medical sciences."
