The Israeli Supreme Court ordered on Sunday to suspend the investigation into the "multi-level failures" concerning the October 7 attack, which involves the military and the internal intelligence service "Shabak." Last December, State Comptroller Matanyahu Engelman began a comprehensive investigation into the Hamas attack on October 7 and the reasons behind it. However, "good governance monitoring groups" filed a petition to the court to suspend the investigation, arguing that "it is not within the government's jurisdiction and will harm the operational capabilities of the Israeli army."
The Attorney General's office adopted the stance against the investigation, as reported by the Times of Israel. Judge Gila Kanfi Steinitz initially ruled in May that she would not halt the comptroller's investigation, but after receiving confidential responses from security agencies, she decided today to order Engelman to suspend the inquiry. Steinitz stated, "In light of the complex security reality, I issued an order to suspend the investigation proceedings regarding the Israeli army and Shabak." The suspension will be temporary until a hearing is held in the Supreme Court on the matter in July.
