Two security sources reported today, Monday, that "a senior member of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, Mr. Razi Al-Mousavi, was killed during an Israeli airstrike on the outskirts of the Syrian capital." Iranian news agency Tasnim confirmed the death of a senior advisor to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard during the Israeli attack in Syria.
The official Iranian television interrupted its usual news broadcast to announce Mousavi's death, describing him as "one of the oldest advisors of the Revolutionary Guard in Syria." The television stated that Mousavi was "among the companions of Qassem Soleimani," the commander of the Quds Force of the Revolutionary Guard, who was killed in a U.S. drone strike in Iraq in 2020.
The Iranian ambassador in Damascus, Hossein Akbari, told official Iranian television that Mousavi was registered at the embassy as a diplomat and was killed by Israeli missiles after returning home from work. According to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper, Mousavi "was to head to Lebanon after holding meetings with militia leaders in Iraq and Syria," noting that two of his aides and officers in the Revolutionary Guard were also killed in the strike.
Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi stated in a statement: "There is no doubt that this step is another sign of frustration and weakness in the occupied Zionist regime in the region," adding that Israel "will certainly pay the price for this crime."
The Revolutionary Guard confirmed today that "Israel will pay for the crime of assassinating one of its veteran military advisors in Syria." The Revolutionary Guard's statement said: "Hours ago, Major General Seyed Razi Al-Mousavi, one of the old advisors of the Revolutionary Guard, was martyred in a barbaric Israeli bombing in Syria," adding that "the martyr was among the companions of martyr Qassem Soleimani and was responsible for logistical support for the resistance front in Syria."
The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the killing of Brigadier General Razi Mousavi, considering it "a strong condemnation of this terrorist step and another sign of the nature of the regime. This assassination is a continuation of all the crimes committed by the Zionist entity, violating all international laws."
In a comment on the targeting of the Iranian leader, Hezbollah issued a statement noting: "The Zionist enemy committed a new crime on Monday afternoon, adding to its record of crimes and aggressions, which is the assassination of our dear brother Brigadier General Seyed Razi Mousavi in Syria, who was working as a military advisor there, and we consider this assassination a blatant and gross violation of boundaries."
The Syrian Observatory reported injuries to 5 of the accompanying members of the Revolutionary Guard leader Razi Mousavi.
Who is Seyed Razi Mousavi? He has been residing in Syria for several years, serving as the representative of the Quds Force in Syria. During the war, he has acted as a channel for logistical and financial transfers to the Revolutionary Guard forces. According to Iranian opposition sources, the salaries of Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces and Hezbollah members are secured from Khamenei's office, and funds are transferred to Syria by the Revolutionary Guard in cash, which is then converted to agents of the Quds Force and distributed by Brigadier General Seyed Razi Mousavi, representing the Quds Forces at the Iranian regime's embassy, among Quds Force leaders. The command headquarters of the Revolutionary Guard is located in Damascus in a building known as the glass headquarters, next to Damascus International Airport.
