Sometimes good news comes with a small problem, and this is the case with the young Brazilian winger Savinho joining English club Manchester City. The former Girona player arrives after an excellent season, being one of the stars of La Liga. Savinho is a skillful and speedy player with a lot of footballing potential, and his performance is sure to improve under Pep Guardiola’s guidance. He will join one of the best attacking lines in the world, if not the best, as City has a goal-scoring machine in Erling Haaland. However, Guardiola has decided to acquire a new forward to certainly help with the team’s attacking side.
Nevertheless, this is not all good news with Savinho; the arrival of a new winger complicates matters and Pep Guardiola will have a dilemma when choosing the starting lineup. Although the season is very long and there are available minutes for everyone, the "overcrowding" in the "Citizens" attack could complicate the management of the locker room.
Savinho joins a good list of wingers including Jack Grealish and Jeremy Doku, with the English winger needing to regain his best form after a season where he faced some physical issues, while the Belgian completed a solid first year at City and is expected to take another step forward this season. Aside from the wingers, Bernardo Silva and Phil Foden seem to be key players in Guardiola's plans. Certainly, the Portuguese can play in midfield, but the English player is a fundamental part of the attack, especially after his remarkable performances last season where he emerged as a true goal scorer.
Additionally, there is the captain Kevin De Bruyne who, if fit, is among the best players in the world in the final third and often showcases this on the pitch. Finally, it seems very difficult for Erling Haaland to lose his starting position given his remarkable statistics season after season. Consequently, Julián Álvarez will need to find a place either on one of the wings or in midfield, further complicating matters for the wingers.
Thus, with Kevin De Bruyne, Bernardo Silva, Phil Foden, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku, Savinho, Julián Álvarez, and Erling Haaland on the roster, and only four attacking positions available in the starting lineup, Pep Guardiola will have to manage the situation, and perhaps another solution could be the departure of one of these players.
