Lebanese Foreign Minister Abdullah Bou Habib called for "pressure on Israel to stabilize calm in southern Lebanon," reaffirming Lebanon's commitment to "extending the UNIFIL mission." Bou Habib stated in a press conference with his Egyptian counterpart, Badr Abd Al-Aty, that "returning calm to southern Lebanon depends not only on stopping aggression but also on implementing Resolution 1701." The Lebanese Foreign Minister relied on "Egypt's efforts to put an end to Israeli aggression and to reach a ceasefire in Gaza," urging "Arabs to restrain Israel to restore calm in the south."
For his part, the Egyptian minister said, "There are numerous crises affecting the region, and we fear they may have negative repercussions on the stability of Lebanon," condemning "the policy of assassination and aggression against the southern suburbs of Beirut." He emphasized that "Egypt supports the implementation of Resolution 1701 and insists on the importance of its execution by all parties and not just Lebanon," noting that "we are maintaining continuous communications to spare Lebanon the consequences of any escalation. The situation in southern Lebanon is of concern to us, and hostile actions are unacceptable."
Abd Al-Aty confirmed that "the region will not enjoy security and stability without the Palestinian people obtaining their rights," reiterating Egypt's steadfast position regarding the need to address the root of the problem in the region, which is the Palestinian issue. He added, "It is essential to stop the aggression on Gaza and halt the killing of civilians there to deescalate tensions in the region." He continued, "We are working with Qatar and the United States to reach a ceasefire in Gaza to prevent a wider war."
