A Russian soldier was injured from the explosion of an improvised explosive device (IED) within an area controlled by the Syrian regime forces in Hasakah province, northeast Syria. Russian forces have initiated an investigation into the incident. The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported that "an IED exploded in an ambulance belonging to the Russian forces near a medical complex inside the security square controlled by the Syrian regime, resulting in the injury of a Russian soldier, a translator, and a civilian."
Images showed damage to the ambulance and the destruction of some parts due to shrapnel from the explosion. Following the incident, a convoy of Russian military vehicles departed from the city of Hasakah towards Qamishli to convene at the airport and investigate the incident, coinciding with significant security mobilization in the security square in Hasakah. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) closed the entrances leading to the security square in Hasakah at the request of the Russian forces, according to the observatory.
The regime forces’ control in Hasakah province is limited to the security square that includes the security headquarters of the Syrian intelligence and the governor's building, in addition to the headquarters of the “National Defense” militias that support the regime's army, while the SDF, backed by the United States, controls the rest of the province with the exception of Ras al-Ain city, which is under Turkish influence and Syrian opposition backed by Ankara.
This attack in Hasakah comes two days after a similar targeting of a joint military patrol of Russian forces along with regime forces near the border with the occupied Syrian Golan in southwest Syria, which resulted in the injury of two Syrian security personnel. In the same context, the "Daraa 24" network reported that unidentified individuals in the town of Ghabbagib in northern Daraa countryside kidnapped a member of the Russian military police who was there to receive his vehicle, prompting the regime and Russian forces to mobilize in the area to search for him.
Later, the kidnappers released the member following threats from the Russian police present at the al-Muthbeen military field north of Daraa, with plans to storm Ghabbagib town, supported by the "Eighth Brigade," to pursue the kidnappers and secure his release.
