Bouhabib: The Necessity for the UN and Its Mission to Play Their Role

On Wednesday, Foreign Affairs and Emigrants Minister Abdullah Bouhabib received the Head of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization in Lebanon, Major General Patrick Ghosh, accompanied by the head of the Joint Truce Monitoring Committee in Beirut, Major Gerard Kearns. They discussed the tense situation in Lebanon and the region amid Israel's ongoing aggression and escalation, as well as its obstruction of efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza. Minister Bouhabib emphasized "the necessity for the United Nations and its truce monitoring mission to play their designated role," and condemned the Israeli targeting of UNIFIL forces in southern Lebanon. He expressed hope that the United Nations would issue a report regarding the Majdal Shams incident to clarify the truth of what happened and to withdraw the pretext of the right to self-defense that Israel used to justify its aggression against the southern suburbs of Beirut on July 30, 2024. For his part, Major General Ghosh warned of the danger of escalation along the Lebanon-Israel border, confirming that UNTSO is performing its duties and monitoring the borders from both sides.
