Walid Jumblatt Raises Concerns About Lebanon's Role in Regional Agreement

Former leader of the Progressive Socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, questioned on the "X" platform whether the upcoming regional agreement would fully encompass Lebanon. He underscored the need for Israel to withdraw from all southern Lebanese territories and emphasized the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and the ongoing role of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Jumblatt queried, "Does the alleged agreement include all of Lebanon? And does our esteemed state recall, even partially, the necessity for Israel to withdraw from the entire south and affirm the ceasefire alongside the crucial role of international forces?"

In another part of his post, Jumblatt criticized the use of the term "safe villages," describing it as an attempt to avoid directly acknowledging the Israeli presence in Lebanese lands. He asked, "Can we move beyond the concept of safe villages, which is an invention to avoid mentioning the occupation?"
