Trump Optimistic on Ukraine Conflict Resolution Post-Talks with Putin and Zelenskyy

U.S. President Donald Trump expressed optimism about potential progress in the Ukraine conflict, emphasizing that the United States could contribute to a resolution amid signs that both Moscow and Kyiv are open to dialogue.

During a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, Trump stated there is an opportunity to address the Ukrainian crisis and move it towards a negotiating path. He noted that his recent conversations with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Zelenskyy were very positive.

President Trump explained that he engaged in discussions with both leaders on Sunday, affirming that Moscow and Kyiv showed readiness to enter into dialogue, enhancing chances for a political settlement.

Trump added that his discussion with Putin was productive, expressing belief that a solution could be reached if current diplomatic efforts continue.

In the same vein, Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov indicated that the phone call between Putin and Trump covered bilateral relations and major international issues, particularly the Ukraine conflict.

Ushakov also noted that Trump showed willingness to work with European allies and Kyiv to support the political settlement process within the ongoing diplomatic efforts alongside the G7 summit.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that Moscow looks forward to implementing understandings reached in Anchorage, considering it as a potential first step towards de-escalation and creating conditions to halt the conflict.

These statements come amidst continuing international diplomatic efforts to find a way out of the ongoing war, with anticipation over whether recent communications will pave the way for a new phase of negotiations between the involved parties.
