Lebanese President Joseph Aoun received a phone call from U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, discussing the current situation in Lebanon and the region amid recent political and security developments.
During the call, Rubio reaffirmed the United States' continued support for Lebanon, emphasizing the importance of enhancing security and stability, extending the Lebanese state's authority over its entire territory, and supporting legitimate institutions and security and military forces, notably the Lebanese army.
President Aoun expressed his appreciation for the U.S. support to Lebanon, asserting that achieving stability requires a comprehensive cessation of Israeli attacks on Lebanese territory, considering that establishing a ceasefire is essential for the success of the anticipated negotiation process.
The Lebanese president stressed that de-escalation is a crucial step to advance the upcoming Lebanese-American-Israeli negotiations expected to be held in Washington next week, aiming to reach agreements that contribute to restoring security and stability, reinforcing Lebanese sovereignty, and preserving the unity of Lebanese lands.
This call occurs at a time when the region is witnessing rapid developments, with continued tensions on the Lebanese border, in tandem with diplomatic efforts aimed at stabilizing calm and preventing the escalation of confrontations.
Moreover, the communication between Beirut and Washington reflects ongoing political and diplomatic coordination between the two sides, amid international and regional efforts to support stability in Lebanon and create appropriate conditions for launching negotiation paths that assist in resolving pending security issues and enhancing opportunities for long-term calm.
