General Rudolf Heikal, Commander of the Lebanese Army, stressed that the strength of the military institution lies in the soldiers' dedication to their mission. He emphasized national peace as a non-negotiable red line and pledged that the army would continue to perform its duties with firmness and responsibility to safeguard security and stability.
Heikal's remarks came during a meeting in Yarzeh attended by the military leadership, unit commanders, and numerous officers. The meeting focused on current developments in Lebanon and the region and assessed security and military situations amid ongoing Israeli aggressions and current challenges.
Beginning the meeting with a moment of silence for the fallen soldiers, Heikal affirmed that their sacrifices remain a source of pride for both the military and the nation. He acknowledged that the leadership honors the martyrs and wounded soldiers and preserves their legacy. During visits to the families of the fallen, Heikal noted their pride in their children's sacrifices, despite the great pain, along with a strong trust in the army and belief in its national role.
He paid tribute to soldiers fulfilling their duties in various regions, especially in the south, despite dangers and challenges, noting that their dedication and discipline embody the military institution's steadfast values.
He stated, “During my visit to the command of South Litani Sector in Tyre and the Second Intervention Regiment in Zahrani yesterday, I gained morale from the soldiers and felt their pride in their mission.”
The session examined the security and regional updates and their impact on Lebanon, with Heikal asserting that maintaining security and stability is a steadfast national priority to foil Israeli aims of internal security destabilization. He stressed that the military institution will continue its duties firmly and responsibly to prevent any threats to national peace.
Regarding the northern and eastern borders, Heikal confirmed good relations with Syrian authorities amidst continuous coordination and assured that military units tasked with border control are executing their duties effectively.
He emphasized the importance of maintaining trust in the military institution, enhancing its unity and credibility, asserting that attempts to undermine or question the army's role would not affect the soldiers' determination or commitment to duty.
He rejected the sectarian and political exploitation of the army's stance on detainees and their sentences.
Additionally, the meeting discussed the army chief's visits abroad, with Heikal urging against speculation as they are pre-scheduled and aim to bolster cooperation with friendly and allied armies, which supports the army's capacities to fulfill its national duties under various circumstances.
He clarified that army delegations engaged in negotiations and other tasks have no sectarian identity, reiterating that the army's denomination is its military uniform and the nation.
