A police raid in a Paris suburb aiming to seize drugs unexpectedly led to the discovery of a stolen Pablo Picasso painting, according to French prosecutors.

The prosecutor's office in Créteil, Southeast of Paris, stated, "This discovery was made during a search operation conducted as part of a narcotics trafficking investigation."

They added that an investigation into theft and trafficking of stolen goods is now underway.

The office also reported, "Four individuals appeared before the court on Friday in a hearing related to the case."

The Créteil prosecutor's office confirmed the Picasso painting is authentic, although no further details were provided.

According to the newspaper "Le Parisien," the search was executed on Monday by investigators in the town of Champigny-sur-Marne, east of Paris.

The report mentioned that the police, along with the Picasso painting, confiscated cannabis resin, luxury clothing, and cash in euros.
