U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance arrived in Switzerland on Sunday for a new round of negotiations between the United States and Iran aimed at ending the Middle East conflict based on a memorandum of understanding signed by both parties.
Vance's plane touched down at Emmen Air Base near Lucerne, central Switzerland, at 3:59 GMT, according to his spokesperson.
Before departing from Joint Base Andrews on Saturday, Vance told reporters he would stay in Switzerland "for a day or two" to participate in peace talks.
He previously informed Fox News that Trump's envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, were already in Switzerland and ready for negotiations.
The next phase of the talks, aimed at ending the war with Iran, is expected to start on Sunday amid ongoing conflict in Lebanon and renewed debate over the status of the Strait of Hormuz.
An Iranian negotiating team arrived in Switzerland on Saturday for discussions with U.S. officials, according to Iranian state media and The New York Times.
It remains unclear whether the talks will be face-to-face, as in the previous round held in Islamabad, which concluded without agreement after 21 hours of negotiation.
Vance has expressed hope that negotiators will make "progress on the nuclear issue" and "the ceasefire in Lebanon," adding that "it’s certain the Iranians have issues they want to discuss as well," according to The New York Times.
