All eyes are on Doha, the capital of Qatar, as Axios reports that American envoys Steve Whitkoff and Jared Kushner will hold meetings on Tuesday with Qatar's Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, along with other officials, to discuss developments in the path toward an agreement between the United States and Iran.
The site quotes a White House official stating that the meetings will cover mechanisms to follow up on the memorandum of understanding between Washington and Tehran, as well as coordinating diplomatic efforts aimed at establishing a ceasefire and ensuring the security of shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Axios, U.S. and Iranian technical teams are expected to hold separate meetings on Wednesday with Qatari and Pakistani mediators as part of completing discussions related to the technical aspects of the agreement.
President Donald Trump previously announced that Iran requested a meeting with the United States, asserting that he directed for a swift meeting of technical teams from both sides, noting that the second round of these meetings will be held in Doha.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Levitt confirmed the participation of envoys Whitkoff and Kushner in the meetings, explaining that Washington seeks to promote dialogue with Tehran, strengthen the ceasefire, and ensure free navigation in the Strait of Hormuz while maintaining regional security and the interests of all parties.
Conversely, the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs denied reports of technical talks between Iranian and American delegations in Doha, affirming that current proceedings are limited to consultations with the Qatari side regarding the follow-up on commitments. News of direct technical meetings does not reflect reality, according to statements from Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi.
