Armed Attackers Open Fire on Security Forces in Southern Syria's Sweida

In Syria's southern province of Sweida, confrontations erupted between armed groups and security forces. Security sources reported that "lawless groups targeted internal security forces' posts in Sweida with heavy machine guns."

The report added that these groups directed heavy weapon fire towards internal security forces stationed at Tal Hadeed, west of Sweida, as reported by "Al-Ikhbariya Syrian" on Friday.

Fatalities and Injuries Reported

A local source indicated that "two individuals were killed and approximately 16 members of the rebellious gangs in Sweida were injured during their attempt to attack security posts."

This incident comes amid recent security tensions in certain parts of Sweida, where attacks on security posts and patrols by armed groups have become increasingly frequent.

Sweida has been under a ceasefire agreement since July 2025, following armed clashes between Bedouin tribes and Druze armed factions loyal to Sheikh Hikmat al-Hijri.

However, groups affiliated with al-Hijri have repeatedly violated the ceasefire by targeting military points, while the government has adhered to the agreement, facilitating evacuations and the entry of humanitarian aid.
