U.S. President Donald Trump has revealed plans for a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, emphasizing significant strides in recent weeks aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine.
During a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Ankara, Trump noted positive developments in negotiations, stating, "I believe we've made substantial progress over the past couple of weeks, and we'll see how things unfold."
The U.S. President affirmed that both Moscow and Kyiv are showing a willingness to reach a settlement to the conflict, expressing confidence that a peace agreement would prevent renewed hostilities between the parties.
Trump also expressed his confidence in the potential for a direct meeting between the Russian and Ukrainian presidents in the near future, suggesting that such dialogue could advance resolution efforts.
On the military front, Trump pledged continued U.S. security assurances to Ukraine, noting that Washington is considering transferring the license for Patriot air defense systems production to Kyiv, enabling local missile manufacturing once technical requirements are met.
The U.S. President also announced his intention to visit Ukraine at an "appropriate time," reaffirming U.S. support for efforts towards lasting peace and ending the conflict.
