Algerian defender Aïssa Mandi announced his retirement from international football on Wednesday, ending a 12-year career with the Algerian national team.
Mandi, who recently joined Spanish club Levante, shared a video message on his Facebook account stating that it was time to bid farewell to the national team. He expressed pride in wearing the "Desert Foxes" jersey and playing 123 international matches, a record in Algerian history.
During his international career, Mandi scored eight goals and contributed to Algeria's victory in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations. He also participated in the World Cup finals in 2014 and 2026.
The 34-year-old footballer affirmed that he leaves the team "with a clear conscience," noting that he gave his all and spared no effort throughout his years representing his country. He thanked the fans, his teammates, and all the technical and administrative staff.
The retirement announcement follows Mandi's recent transfer to Levante, where he signed a contract lasting until June 2028. He arrives from French club Lille, ready to tackle a new challenge in La Liga.
