Prime Minister Nawaf Salam has committed to revitalizing the southern Lebanese town of Frun and its surrounding areas, calling it a national priority that the state is dedicated to. He emphasized the government's efforts to mobilize institutional resources to facilitate the return of locals, ensure their settlement, and provide essential services and urgent needs.
The statement was made during a meeting with a delegation from Frun's municipality, led by Mayor Hassan Bazzi, and attended by Hashim Haydar, the head of the South Council. The discussion focused on the town's current conditions and the needs of its residents.
Bazzi explained that the meeting was quickly arranged at Salam's invitation, in response to Frun's urgent needs. The delegation presented various town requirements, to which the Prime Minister responded positively, assuring that work on some demands would commence by Tuesday.
Topics of discussion included the status of displaced residents and those who have returned but remain in the town. Priority issues outlined were housing and alternative accommodations, water supply, roads, supporting walls, waste management vehicles, the municipal building, and the Lebanese Civil Defense center.
The meeting also addressed the complex matter of homes built on public land, which Bazzi described as significant and intricate. Salam pledged to tackle this issue promptly.
Agriculture, vital to Frun’s residents, was another key topic, with the Prime Minister expressing keen interest and committing to immediate follow-up and resolution.
Bazzi concluded by thanking Salam for his dedication to Frun and its people, expressing hope that these issues will be swiftly and effectively addressed on the ground.
