The Houthi militia has intensified its attacks in the Mawza district in the western countryside of Taiz province, southwestern Yemen, targeting civilian facilities. This escalation reflects the group's disregard for civilian lives and the sanctity of educational and religious institutions.
Local sources reported that on Wednesday, the Houthi militia shelled the "New Generation" mosque in Al-Maqsab village in the Al-Atabah area, part of the Mawza district, with several mortar shells, leading to material damage to the mosque.
This shelling occurred less than 24 hours after the "New Generation" school in the same area was targeted with mortar shells, in an attack that endangers the lives of students and civilians and highlights the continued Houthi escalation on the Taiz frontlines.
According to the sources, the successive targeting of a school and then a mosque within two days raises serious questions about the nature of the militia's chosen targets, especially since educational facilities and places of worship are supposed to be protected as civilian amenities, not turned into conflict targets.
This escalation comes amid continuous tensions on the Taiz frontlines, alongside Houthi military movements in several contact zones, exacerbating fears of widening confrontations and the return of escalation to more dangerous levels.
