The Yemeni Armed Forces announced that the Houthi group carried out a "terrorist" attack on Sunday, targeting the Port of Mocha and both civilian and military sites in the coastal city, resulting in 7 deaths and 30 injuries.
The official spokesperson for the Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Majid Abdullah Al-Nazili, stated in a release on the "X" platform on Monday that the Houthi group launched a missile and drone attack on the city of Mocha. He noted that the assault targeted civilian areas and vital facilities, including employee residences, power stations, as well as military positions.
Al-Nazili explained that the attack led to the death of four armed forces personnel and three civilians, with 13 other civilians injured. Most of the injured were discharged from hospitals after receiving treatment.
He added that the armed forces were able to respond to the attack and shoot down eleven Houthi drones. He pointed out that the attack constitutes a breach of international humanitarian law and its customary rules.
The military spokesperson affirmed that the units of the armed forces conducting operations in Mocha will continue their mission to protect the city, emphasizing that these forces operate under unified military leadership and decision-making.
On Sunday, Yemen witnessed a significant military escalation concentrated on the western coast and in Taiz Province, with a Houthi militia attack employing missiles and drones on the Port of Mocha and areas within the city. This occurred alongside renewed clashes on various Taiz fronts, with government forces raising their alert in Al-Dhali province and dispatching additional military units to its fronts.
