Footage aired by the official television network showed the Defense Minister, alongside several military leaders, conducting an inspection tour of military equipment. This included drones, vehicles, and various weapons, where they received explanations about the characteristics of these items and their readiness levels.
The display featured products linked to the military manufacturing division of the Yemeni Ministry of Defense. Al-Aqili stated that the division's efforts have bolstered the armed forces' capabilities with new weapons and equipment.
The appearance of drones in this display marks a significant shift in the Yemeni government's military rhetoric. For years, the government has primarily relied on coalition aircraft, while the Houthi group has increasingly used drones for internal operations, cross-border, and maritime attacks.
In a June interview, Al-Aqili revealed that the armed forces possess drones, some locally manufactured and others purchased, which have been deployed in several battlefronts.
This display comes amid rising military tensions in Yemen and government assurances of heightened preparedness. Concurrently, the Ministry of Defense is leading efforts to reorganize military units and enhance their operational and armament capabilities.
