The Israeli military spokesperson, Ella Wawiya, announced that Saturday's airstrike in Deir ez-Zahrani targeted an individual identified as "Abu Hassan Alaa," described as a prominent commander in the Hezbollah-affiliated "Badr Unit."
Wawiya stated that the target was involved in planning operations against Israeli forces, including launching explosive drones towards southern Lebanon. Over recent years, he has commanded several combat zones within the organization.
She added that the strike was executed in response to an attack on Israeli forces in what Israel terms the "security zone," claiming that his assassination deals a blow to the unit's leadership capabilities.
Wawiya also linked the operation to the assassination of Ali Samir Al-Hajj Hassan, noted as a battalion commander in the "Ridwan Force," who was targeted inside a command center in the town of Ansar.
