A detainee, aged 70 and identified as (A.A.), has died after struggling with illness inside Zahle Prison, five years into his detention without sentencing.
His death follows two days after the passing of another inmate in Roumieh Prison. The Lebanese Prisoners' Families Committee has indicated that the total number of prisoner deaths since the beginning of the year has reached 71.
The families of the prisoners have renewed their plea to President Joseph Aoun and other relevant authorities for swift intervention to address prison conditions and enact a general amnesty, aiming to stop what they described as the 'death toll' in Lebanese prisons.
