The Supreme Council of the Popular Resistance in Yemen issued a call on Thursday for its supporters to back government forces in their ongoing battles against Houthi rebels in the southwestern province of Taiz. This comes in the wake of extensive attacks on frontlines within the province, resulting in casualties on both sides.
In a statement posted on its Facebook page, the council urged all its members and local supporters to "provide full support to the armed forces in their just struggle against the terrorist Houthi militia across multiple fronts in Taiz province."
The council did not specify the nature of the support requested or any specific steps planned to reinforce government troops.
The appeal follows a series of large-scale offensives launched by the Houthis on army positions in western Taiz, marking an escalation that resulted in numerous combatant deaths and injuries.
Supporters of the Supreme Council of the Popular Resistance have previously participated in fighting alongside government forces against the Houthis.
In a related development, Yemeni government forces announced that Houthi forces targeted western coastal districts with 14 ballistic missiles.
They added that they successfully intercepted drones and repelled a ground assault targeting positions along the western coast, amidst ongoing tensions and clashes on several fronts.
