Epidemiologists Predict Fertility Crisis Threatening Humanity by 2045

Two epidemiologists in the United States have predicted that male fertility will be nonexistent or approaching zero in 25 years. This warning comes from a recently published book highlighting the potential for a global crisis threatening the human race.

Shanna Swan, an environmental and reproductive epidemiologist at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York, cautioned that declining sperm counts and changes in sexual development "threaten the survival of mankind" and could lead to a fertility crisis, according to Axios.

This information is detailed in a book authored by Swan and her colleague Stacey Colino titled "Countdown: How Our Modern World is Threatening Sperm Counts, Altering Male and Female Reproductive Development, and Imperiling the Future of Humanity." They indicate that the fertility crisis poses a global threat comparable to the climate crisis.

Swan emphasized the alarming trend that sperm counts are declining worldwide, suggesting that by 2045, the average sperm count for men could approach zero, which she described as "a little concerning, to say the least." The book warns that the total sperm count in the Western world has decreased by about 59% between 1973 and 2011. Swan remarked, "If you look at the sperm count curve and extend it forward, it will reach zero by 2045," theorizing that "theoretically, the average man will have no viable sperm 25 years from today."
