Famous Journalist Announces Ovarian Cancer Diagnosis Live on Air

CNN star journalist Christiane Amanpour announced live on air that she has been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and has begun chemotherapy treatment for several months. However, she did not clarify whether she would be stepping back from the screen during this time. The 63-year-old journalist, who resides in London, revealed that the past four weeks have been a whirlwind of stress for her as she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, like millions of women around the world. She also stated that she underwent a successful major surgery to remove the cancer and is now undergoing several months of chemotherapy.

In a video clip from her show, which she shared on her Twitter account today under the title "Some Personal News from Me," Amanpour expressed her reassurance about the future and the British healthcare system, explaining that she wanted to speak about her illness in the interest of transparency.

Amanpour urged all women to undergo early diagnostic tests, advising them to seek out information about the disease, get regular check-ups, and always listen to their bodies, stressing the importance of not ignoring legitimate medical concerns.

Amanpour, who is of Iranian descent and holds British nationality, currently hosts a program named "Amanpour" on CNN and heads its international division. She gained recognition from the American global network audience for her coverage of the Gulf War in 1991 following the Iraqi invasion of Kuwait in 1990. Over the past two decades, Amanpour has interviewed numerous leaders and key figures worldwide and has reported extensively from Iraq, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Somalia, Rwanda, and the Balkans.
