The women's doubles team consisting of Tunisian player Ons Jabeur, ranked 30th in the world, alongside American Kristina Mchale, ranked 84th, faced the Australian duo Daria Gavrilova and Ellen Perez in the first round of the Australian Open tennis tournament.
Ons Jabeur and Kristina Mchale won against the Australian pair Daria Gavrilova and Ellen Perez in straight sets after one hour and 38 minutes, with scores of 7-6 and 6-4.
With this result, the Tunisian-American duo qualifies for the second round in the doubles competition of the Australian Open, the first of the four Grand Slam tournaments. In the second round, Ons Jabeur and Kristina Mchale will face the third-seeded Czech team of Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova.
It is also worth noting that Tunisian champion Ons Jabeur is set to play her singles match tomorrow, Friday, against the world number three, Japanese player Naomi Osaka.
