Spanish reports confirmed that Xavi Hernandez, the coach of Qatari club Al Sadd, will be the coach of Barcelona, succeeding Dutchman Koeman, if the latter fails to win the Spanish league title. Barcelona's loss to Granada has sparked many discussions within the club's board, led by Laporta, especially since the Catalan team no longer has a chance to win the league without relying on the results of competing teams.
After Koeman was sent off by the match referee, Laporta began considering making crucial decisions starting with replacing the coach if they fail to win the Spanish league title. According to "Deportes Cuatro," Laporta decided to part ways with Koeman at the end of the current season if they lose the league to competing teams and if the team's performance does not improve compared to previous matches, especially since the president has hinted on multiple occasions that the Dutch coach is not the right fit to lead the project.
Although Laporta is impressed by German coach Julian Nagelsmann, who has officially signed with Bayern Munich, "Cuatro" confirmed that Xavi Hernandez will be the coach of the new project at Barcelona during Laporta's second term. Barcelona management contacted Xavi with a text message informing him not to renew with his current club, Al Sadd, and that if he wishes to extend his contract, there should be a clause allowing him to go to Barcelona.
Xavi played for Barcelona for 17 years from 1998 to 2015, during which he won 25 major domestic and international titles before turning to coaching in 2019 with Al Sadd. With them, he won five domestic championships, while reaching the semi-finals of the AFC Champions League in 2019 was the furthest the team reached under the Spanish coach.
