Klopp "Happy" After Liverpool Reaches Agreement with Salah

German coach Jürgen Klopp of Liverpool expressed his "happiness" regarding the negotiations with Egyptian striker Mohamed Salah for a contract renewal, noting that there is nothing new in the top scorer's situation with Liverpool. This was reported on Tuesday, the eve of the first leg of the UEFA Champions League quarter-finals.

British media reported earlier this week that Salah, who is contracted with the "Reds" until 2023, is close to reaching an agreement on a new contract that would keep him at "Anfield" until the end of his football career. His continuation with Liverpool was previously in doubt after negotiations between the two parties stalled at the end of last year, amid reports of his desire for a high salary to become the highest-paid player at the club.

In response to a question about the 29-year-old forward's contract, Klopp said on Monday during a press conference in Lisbon: "I am happy about that because there is nothing new to say. That’s a good thing. The parties involved are talking to each other, and that’s all I need."

Since joining "Anfield" in the summer of 2017 from Italian club Roma, Salah has established himself as one of the best stars in the English Premier League, playing a key role in leading the "Reds" to their first league title since 1990 (2019-2020 season) and winning the UEFA Champions League, FIFA Club World Cup, and UEFA Super Cup (2019), in addition to the domestic League Cup this season.

The Egyptian continues to shine this season, currently topping the scoring chart with twenty goals, ahead of his Portuguese teammate Diogo Jota and South Korean striker Heung-Min Son from Tottenham (14). After the disappointment of losing the Africa Cup of Nations final to his teammate Sadio Mané and the Senegalese national team, and then missing out on qualifying for the 2022 World Cup at the hands of the same team, Salah hopes to compensate by contributing to leading Liverpool to a historic quadruple, as they trail Manchester City by just one point in the league and will face them on Saturday in the semi-finals of the domestic cup as well.
