The United States Lifted Restrictions on Flights to Cuba

The French news agency "AFP" reported that the U.S. Department of Transportation lifted restrictions on flights to Cuba yesterday as part of measures announced by President Joe Biden's administration in May in a gesture of reconciliation with the island. The decision will especially allow U.S. airlines to operate flights to airports other than the capital city, Havana, as stated in a document. Group travel will also be permitted again. On May 16, the Biden administration announced the lifting of a series of sanctions targeting Cuba, describing them as "practical decisions aimed at responding to the humanitarian situation on the island and developing economic opportunities with Cubans," as explained by a senior U.S. official at that time. In addition to the flights, the U.S. government intends to implement a program that has been suspended for several years, which facilitates the visa application process for members of the same family. They also promised to increase the capacity to review visa applications in Havana.
