Message from Ronaldo to Fans After Villarreal Match

Cristiano Ronaldo, the star of Manchester United, considered that he "did his job" when he led his team to a dramatic victory over Spanish side Villarreal on Wednesday in the UEFA Champions League. The Portuguese legend scored a goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time, turning Manchester United's deficit into a 2-1 win at Old Trafford in Group F of the competition.

The 36-year-old told BT Sport after the match: "It's my job (to score goals)." He added, "What a tough match it was. Villarreal played very well and created several chances. We struggled a bit and we knew before the match that we had to win. It was difficult."

United fell behind in the 53rd minute with a goal from Paco Alcácer, but equalized with a stunning direct shot from Alex Telles. In the final seconds, substitute Fred sent a cross to Ronaldo, who headed it to Jesse Lingard, who set up the Portuguese striker for a shot on goal.

Ronaldo, who returned to Manchester United after leaving in 2009, continued: "Our team was a bit nervous in the first half and second half to be honest, and we were a bit lucky as well. We didn't have luck in the last match, but we had it now."

The all-time top scorer in the Champions League praised the "great attitude of his teammates" and the support of the fans for the team, adding: "This is what we want when the team is not performing well. What an important win." Atalanta leads the group with four points, one ahead of Swiss side Young Boys and United, while Villarreal sits last with one point.
