Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that he spends his day like other Ukrainians, alternating between taking shelter and confronting challenges to protect Ukraine. He expressed his sorrow over the casualties and destruction that have afflicted many landmarks and infrastructure in his country. Zelensky’s daily life during the Russian military operation in Ukraine, which entered its seventh day on Wednesday, is reportedly not much different from what Ukrainians are experiencing as they monitor the Russian war machine.
Despite the war conditions, Zelensky agreed to a brief media interview to discuss his daily routine during the conflict, confirming that he and his presidential team are in Kyiv. He noted, "I have the same roof of freedom... work and sleep... that’s all."
The Ukrainian president displayed sadness about not being able to see his family, especially since he had previously warned about the targeting of him and his family by Russia. When a reporter asked him, "Can you see your family? Can you see your children?" Zelensky replied, "No... no... I can't." The reporter followed up with, "When was the last time you saw them?" To which the Ukrainian president responded, "Before this war."
Zelensky, 44 years old, appeared with a slightly longer chin and was dressed in quasi-military attire inside a heavily guarded building. He moved cautiously and joked before suddenly listening to his team leader, Andriy Yermak, who announced a new targeting incident. Yermak informed him about the bombing of Babyn Yar, which contains a memorial, a historical landmark in Ukraine.
Zelensky remarked in surprise, "This is Russia. Congratulations." The missile targeting resulted in the death of several Ukrainian civilians, which saddened Zelensky and made him lament the current state of war against his country, while vowing to continue the resistance amid international support and a war that seems to be tilting in Ukraine's favor.
