Suleiman Shalaby, the uncle of Basant Shalaby, the girl from Gharbia who committed suicide after ingesting a toxic substance in protest against two young men who shared fake photos of her on Facebook, revealed new shocking information.
The Teacher is a Partner in the Crime
In an interview with "Al Arabiya.net," he stated that a teacher who teaches his nephew's daughter was a partner with the two young men accused in the crime, mocking and bullying her after the fake photos were published in front of her classmates, which severely affected her mental state and led her to take her own life.
He added that the teacher is a primary and original perpetrator of the crime, failing to fulfill his educational role in supporting the girl, protecting her, and providing psychological support, instead exacerbating her crisis and pushing her into depression and despair.
The uncle noted that electronic blackmail and the dissemination of fake photos are foreign habits and strange culture that do not exist in their village or neighboring villages, describing them as individual behaviors that do not align with the values of the tightly-knit and conservative families in rural Egypt.
He revealed that his niece did not inform her family about the issue and fought the rumors alone, eager to keep the news from her mother, who was suffering from a stroke that affected her mobility.

He added that her father had confronted her about indecent photos circulating among the village youth just before the last Friday prayer; however, she broke down, denied any knowledge of the photos, and insisted they were fake. She revealed that two young men had been trying to blackmail her for some time. The uncle and her father believed her and did not trust what they had seen in the photos, especially since she was of good character and had memorized the Quran.
Uncle Basant mentioned that he tracked the photos and was shocked to see them spread and witness the bullying directed at his niece, which impacted her mental state and led her to end her life. He affirmed that the family would not rest until they achieved justice for their daughter, pursuing those responsible for her death until they are held accountable.
Egyptian security forces arrested the two young men accused in the incident on Tuesday. The investigation team's efforts resulted in locating the suspects, identified as "Ibrahim A." and "Abdul Hamid Sh.", and led to their arrest.
